A TIMELY RESUSCITATION OF THE SIERRA LEONE PREMIER LEAGUE

A nation that is seemingly divided and stinks of an obnoxious political odour has been seen to be united by the revivification of national football. The Sierra Leone Premier League has attracted both national and international attention, compounded by social media hype. Football fanatics across the country have witnessed an enlivened comeback of the league which had been comatose for almost four and a half years.

The opening fixture was between Mighty Blackpool and East End Lions. It was a thrilling moment; there were scores of people from both sides. The match is literally seen as a battle for supremacy and territorial rivalry. The result was bittersweet altogether: the Tiss Tass Boys were quickly disappointed 😞 by the goal of Alhasaan Kamara alias Twin. He was mentally decisive as to how he should score. He's simple, yet reliable and it was unbelievable when he found the ball at the back of the net. The goal manifested an outstanding exhibition of brilliance. The rest was misery for Blackpool. Blackpool were very stylistic and demonstrated "a Barcelona-type Football” by dominating ball possession and tactics. The drums were beaten to a ceaseless degree, and the songs were sung uninterruptedly to the extent that your ears were only loyal to where your heart lies.

Effervescent spectators came from different parts of the city to witness the opening ceremony of the league. The major thoroughfares leading to the stadium were exceedingly engaged with throngs of vehicles and people just to make their presence at the National Stadium. East End Lions were in their red dominated T- shirts and white shorts, and Blackpool in their orange jersey and shorts. Yes, football is back and alive, and its buoyancy will be sustained by the support of the fans.

Football is a natural force of unity and love amongst Sierra Leoneans. Many people believe the ground-breaking return of the Sierra Leone Premier League will foster national cohesion. We have to ensure we support the league, it's our little efforts that will ensure the continuity of football in our nation. Stakeholders are morally bound to do what needs to be done to maintain the consistency of loyalty and love from the fans. This will as well serve as a good platform for players to be earmarked for our national team to be composed of exceptional players who will fly the green, white and blue in regional and international spheres.
